In this workshop, you will be guided by ensemble members of the paper theatre as you split into groups and utilize common source materials to create small performance pieces. The heart of the workshop is the creative devising process, with time reserved at the end for sharing pieces and (if desired) receiving feedback.

Overall, this workshop is intended to foster Meeting between fellow creators, provide a space to practice creating in a judgement-free zone, and deepen community connections within Chicago. We hope to share some of our own discoveries as an ensemble while we facilitate the workshop, but the main goal of the event is provide a space for people to create and Meet.

While this event is mainly targeted toward theatre performers, all are welcome–dancers, musicians, designers, etc.

The essential layout of the day will be:

  1. Introductions
  2. Exercises
  3. Sharing of source materials, rules, and expectations
  4. Work time
  5. Presentations and (if requested) feedback

Accessibility:

The Edge is ADA accessible through the main entrance, although the room we use has concrete floors. Yoga mats and blankets are available for floor work if desired.

Exercises are based in creative movement, but are self-led and can be explored at any mobility level.

Snacks are provided- we will do our best to accommodate any dietary restrictions, but cannot guarantee the space is allergen-free.

There are two multi-stall restrooms available in the main Edge space- one with stalls an urinals, the other with just stalls.

Water fountains are available, as is a communal fridge.

If you have any other accessibility concerns, please reach out via our contact page. The paper theatre believes that art is richer for honoring a wide array of human experiences, and that people of all abilities deserve the opportunity to create and see themselves reflected in art.
